Stefano Cocco Cantini

Stefano Cocco Cantini was born in Follonica on ’56.

He has worked regularly with some of the biggest and wellknown national and international Jazz musicians such as Chet Baker, Elvin Jones, Michel Petrucciani, Cameron Brown, Didier Lockwood, Michel Benita, Billy Cobham, Dave Holland, Billy Hart, Kenny Wheeler, Billy Elgart, Manhua Roche , Ngyen Lee, Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Antonello Salis, Ares Tavolazzi, Roberto Gatto, Mauro Grossi, Louis Sclavis, Rita Marcotulli, Massimo Urbani, Furio Di Castri, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Paolo Fresu, Luca Flores, Danilo Rea, Anders Shoenlberg, Daniellson balls, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Philippe Petrucciani, Nathalie Blanc and many more.

He has toured in Italy and abroad with Pop Music’s Artist such as: Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Raf, Laura Pausini, Fiorella Mannoia, Alejandro Sanz, Ivana Spagna. The Theater has been an interesting experience too, and Cantini has composed and performed songs for theatrical performances with Italian Actors as Giorgio Albertazzi, Arnoldo Foa, Paul Handel, David Riondino. He has performed concerts in major theaters around the world including: the National Art Center in Ottawa and the Olympia in Paris.

He recorded several albums including Stoparding with the 4et Giochi Proibiti, and always with this 4et the Project Toucan featuring Enrico Rava, What a coulor for this Furio Di Castri, and many others as guest soloist.
In 2001 he published, with the label Materiali Sonori, his first CD as a leader Niccolina al mare, a tribute to the great Michel Petrucciani, one of the Artists Cantini performed with. In 2003 he produced for Grey Cat Festival , Il Circo, a project with Raffaello Pareti and Antonello Salis, the Project has been distributed by Egea. His latest work is L’amico del vento published by Egea with Rita Marcotulli and Archestring Project directed by Mauro Grossi. With this project, he has been at the 2006′ Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada with a huge success. The American magazine Down Beat,one of the important Magazine in the world music wrote that Stefano Cantine is one of the greatest interpreters of the world’s soprano sax and the author of the best concert of the Festival week. In May 2008 he was invited to the Jazz Festival in Charleston South Carolina with his new project, published by Egea in 2010: Errante. A recent new issue also for the CD Living Coltrane produced by Toscana Audio Video Production and distributed by Egea.

Ha collaborato regolarmente con alcuni tra i più grandi jazzisti nazionali e internazionali come: Chet Baker, Elvin Jones, Michel Petrucciani, Cameron Brown, Didier LockWood, Michel Benita, Billy Cobham, Dave Holland, Billy Hart, Kenny Wheeler, Billy Elgart, Manu Rochè, Ngyen Lee, Dave Liebman, Richie Beirach, Antonello Salis, Ares Tavolazzi, Roberto Gatto, Mauro Grossi, Louis Sclavis, Rita Marcotulli, Massimo Urbani, Furio Di Castri, Ramberto Ciammarughi, Paolo Fresu, Luca Flores, Danilo Rea, Anders Shoenlberg, Palle Daniellson, Enrico Rava, Stefano Bollani, Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, Philippe Petrucciani, Nathalie Blanc.

Numerose sono le tourneés in Italia e all’estero con artisti di musica leggera: Ray Charles, Phil Collins, Raf, Laura Pausini, Fiorella Mannoia, Alejandro Sanz, Ivana Spagna e altri. Anche il teatro è stato fonte di interessanti esperienze; ha composto ed eseguito brani in spettacoli teatrali con: Giorgio Albertazzi, Arnoldo Foà, Paolo Haendel, Davide Riondino. Ha eseguito concerti nei più importanti teatri del mondo tra i quali: il National Art Center di Ottawa e l’Olimpia di Parigi.

Ha inciso numerosi dischi Stoparding del quartetto Giochi Proibiti e sempre con questo gruppo, Toucan con Rava, Bobera con i Libens, What a coulor for a tale di Furio Di Castri e moltissimi altri come ospite solista.

Nel 2001 pubblica, con Materiali Sonori, il suo primo cd da leader Niccolina al Mare, un omaggio al grande Michel Petrucciani con il quale Cantini ha collaborato. Nel 2003 collabora ad un progetto di Raffaello Pareti, con Antonello Salis alla fisarmonica realizzando una produzione del Grey Cat Festival e pubblica il disco Il Circo, per l’etichetta Egea presentandolo ad Umbria Jazz 2003 .

Del 2006 è il disco L’amico del vento pubblicato da Egea con Rita Marcotulli e gli Archestring projet diretti da Mauro Grossi. Con questo progetto a partecipato al Jazz Festival di Montreal 2006 in Canada ottenendo un incredibile successo. L’americana Down Beat, la piu importante testata giornalistica musicale mondiale nella quale scrivono giornalisti come Juan Rodriguez, lo ha definito uno dei piu grandi interpreti mondiali del sax soprano e l’autore del miglior concerto della settimana del Festival.

Nel maggio 2008 è stato invitato al Jazz festival di Charleston nel South Carolina con il suo nuovo progetto Errante edito da EGEA nel 2010. Recente nuova uscita anche per il CD Living Coltrane prodotto da Toscana Produzione Audio Video e distribuito Egea.
